Man Dies After Falling From Boat on Barren Fork River Near Rocket Park

A tragic boating incident on the Barren Fork River claimed the life of a Manchester man on Saturday morning, according to officials with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA). The victim, identified as 48-year-old Corey Blake Phillips, died after falling from a boat while paddling with friends near Rocket Park in Warren County.

Authorities said the incident occurred just before 11 a.m. on June 20 in the Mount Leo area, a popular section of the Barren Fork River known for recreational boating, kayaking, and canoeing. Phillips was reportedly enjoying a day on the water with two other men when the outing took a devastating turn.

According to TWRA investigators, the group had briefly stopped along the river during their trip. Shortly after resuming their journey, Phillips unexpectedly fell from the boat and became unresponsive in the water. The exact circumstances surrounding how he fell remain under investigation, and officials have not yet released information regarding whether he was wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.

The two men accompanying Phillips immediately recognized the seriousness of the situation and called 911 for emergency assistance.
